Caribbean Colombia takes you along a single coastline that carries more history, more culture and more raw natural beauty than most countries contain in their entirety. This is not a beach holiday. This is the Colombia that faces the Caribbean — and it has a story worth understanding before you arrive.
It begins in Cartagena. Four hundred years of colonial history sit in every stone of the Walled City. Spain built this place to protect everything it was taking out of the continent — the gold, the silver, the emeralds — and the fortifications it left behind are extraordinary. But Cartagena is more than its walls. It is a city that has absorbed everything that was done to it and come out the other side with a character unlike anywhere else in the Americas.
From Cartagena the route follows the coast to Santa Marta — Colombia’s oldest surviving city, older than Bogotá, older than Cartagena itself, sitting where the Sierra Nevada mountains meet the Caribbean sea. From there Tayrona National Park, where dense tropical forest runs directly to the water’s edge and the beaches sit between jungle and sea in a way that feels genuinely untouched.
Then the Lost City. Built by the Tayrona civilisation around 800 AD — six centuries before Machu Picchu — and reached through the Sierra Nevada with guides whose ancestors never left these mountains. One of the most significant pre-Columbian sites in the Americas and one of the least visited.
The circuit ends in La Guajira — the desert peninsula at the very top of South America. Red sand, flamingos, the open Caribbean and the Wayuu people, whose culture has remained largely intact through everything the last five centuries threw at it. Cabo de la Vela. Punta Gallinas — the northernmost point of the entire South American continent.
One coastline. The full story.
Nature Colombia is currently in development. The itinerary is being built, the ground partnerships are being established and the research is underway.
